Indoor Air Pollution: Different Causes and Solutions



Air pollution is a serious threat to human health. Smoke coming out from vehicles, factories, burning woods, and coals is making the air more poisonous and unhealthy. We can categorize this air pollution in two-part, indoor pollution and outdoor pollution. 

Causes of Indoor Pollution:

1. Dust: This the major cause of indoor pollution.  PM 2.5 dust particles are the most dangerous pollutant flies in the air. The traditional cleaning methods won’t enough to clean dust particles flying in the air.

2. Synthetic fragrances such as perfumes, deodorizers contain chemicals can cause skin irritation, central nervous system disorders, allergic reaction etc.

3. Cigarette and Tobacco Smoke: Smoke released from a burning cigarette and tobacco is also responsible for indoor pollution.

4. Mould: Mould is harmful to an allergic person. People having asthma diseases are the most vulnerable from Moulds.

5. Burning fossil fuels: When we burn fossil fuels in our houses it emits gases like carbon mono-oxide which causes, nausea, unconsciousness and eventually death.

6. Volatile Organic Compounds:  Paints, varnishes, paint removers, printer are the commonly used household products that also emit toxic gases into the air.  It

How to decrease Indoor Pollution

Preventing the outdoor pollution is not a cup of tea of a single person. Although you can curb the indoor pollution easily by following few steps.

1. Keep your Indoor Place Clean: Regular cleaning of the dusty surface and household things can help to reduce the indoor pollution. A good quality of vacuum cleaner can make this job easier.  With daily cleaning, you keep your environment clean and free from allergens.

2. Ventilate your Indoor Space: Proper ventilation is essential to keep your home free from moulds, cooking fumes and smoke.  Let the fresh air circulate freely with a properly ventilated place.

3. Use an air purifier:  Air purifier is an electronic device which clean indoor air by using filters like HEPA.  It is also efficient to remove the odour, bad smell, bacteria, smoke and viruses from the air.

4. Replace toxin release product with natural and safer products. Instead of buying cheaper and harmful products always prefer natural products.

5. Plants:  Plants are the best friend and source for purifying indoor air.  It is one of the best natural way of removing toxic agents such as benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air.
